About me

Hallo, I'm Jolien.

I'm a Native Belgian, Dutch teacher, helping motivated beginners build the confidence to speak real Flemish Dutch in everyday life.

Mijn verhaal- my story

Why I teach Dutch

Teaching has always been the common thread throughout my career.

When it came time to choose a degree, I found myself drawn to teaching because I loved helping people understand difficult concepts. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at Howest, specialising in Economics and IT. More importantly, I learned how to explain difficult concepts clearly, adapt lessons to different learning styles and help students build confidence.

During my studies, I also spent six months in Norway as part of an Erasmus exchange programme, where I focused on outdoor education and experienced a different approach to teaching and learning. It broadened my perspective on education and reinforced the importance of adapting lessons to every individual student.

During my studies, I volunteered as a Dutch teacher at language camps for French- and English-speaking children during the summer. That was when I realised how much I enjoyed teaching my own language and seeing people gain confidence as they started communicating in Dutch.

After graduating, I taught in both secondary and primary schools. A year later, I moved to Ireland, where I still live today. I spent time working in an international corporate environment, including at Amazon, while supporting Dutch-speaking teams. Although I enjoyed the experience, I realised how much I missed teaching.

That led me back to education. This time focusing on adults.

To prepare for this new chapter, I completed the QQI Level 6 Train the Trainer qualification in Ireland, specialising in adult education. Shortly afterwards, I began teaching Dutch online and quickly discovered that this was exactly where I belonged.

I combine my background in education with real experience teaching adults from all over the world. Every lesson is practical, structured and adapted to the person in front of me.

My goal isn’t just to teach Dutch, but to help you feel confident using it in real life.

Outside teaching, you’ll usually find me exploring new places, learning languages myself or enjoying a good coffee while planning my next lesson.
